Batting Cage
Batting cage information and rules
The following are general rules and guidelines for use of the Halifax Chebucto Minor Baseball batting cage, located at the Larry O’Connell Ball Field.
1) Even if fields are closed the cage may still be used. Please use good judgment here re what kind of weather conditions you use the cage in.
2) Only two people in the cage at a time. A pitcher and a batter.
3) The batter must wear a helmet. It is suggested that the pitcher wear one as well but this is not mandatory.
4) A pitching screen must be used.
5) As a general practice please pitch towards Newton Ave. The netting is doubled up at that end and it will hold up better.
6) When teams are using the tee or soft toss outside of the batting cage, only whiffle balls should be used. One side of the cage is already taking a beating from baseballs being pounded into the side of the cage.
Note that the pitching screen should be locked to the fence when the cage is not in use. The key to the cage door lock will also unlock this lock.
Coaches, if you are unable to use your scheduled time, due to game conflicts or other reason, please try to trade it with someone else for their time. This will ensure that the cage is being used as often as possible and that all teams get in their allotted hours per week - even if it isn't at their regular times.
If anyone has any questions about the batting cage, please contact Jeff Keeler (jkeeler@ns.aliantzinc.ca).
